(Sample) issue hub

Issue and hub structure: This is my (sample) home page for Media Reform issue. I say sample because it will serve as a test bed (learning opportunity) for me and as a sample for future facilitators who (like me at the moment) don’t know where to start. This is consistent with the idea of shared knowledge across the larger collaboration hub (AKA: America’s Plan.) Hubs play key navigation and organizational functions. Especially for new readers. And is a good place to locate updates and new information.

Mapping the issue

The first step is to “map” the issue. I’m going to start with the list below and see what develops over time. Of course every issue will have a unique ways, categories, and needs to layout and organize the information. The only way to learn is to get started, even if you don’t know what the end looks like. I will make individual pages for each of these items on the list because there will be lots of detail here and I don’t want to clutter up this home page.

  • Affected parties, those who have an interest in media reform.
  • Power players, the media platforms, organizations, people on the other side of the table.
  • Logical groupings of sub issues, breaking it down into smaller pieces.

Information series (not sure what to do with this but I’ll park it here until I do.)

Lessons learned (notes)

I think I will make this list in descending order to start.

  1. Developed a standardized layout for the pages using WordPress “patterns” to put a navigation bar at the top and bottom of every page in this issue. That way users can stay within the media reform hub and always know where they are in it.
  2. Putting the links to the relevant sections of the master document will give new users an easy way to explore further.
